Saturday Jul 20, 2024
Saturday Jul 20, 2024
This episode of "Good News on Catholic Spirit Radio" delves into the readings for the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time, offering a continuation from last week's message. The apostles' mission to heal and spread the word of Jesus without His physical presence is revisited, revealing the impactful results of their endeavors.
Deacon Al shares personal reflections from his recent trips, contrasting the natural beauty of Hawaii with the artificial allure of Las Vegas. Through these anecdotes, he emphasizes the importance of focusing on genuine, God-given experiences over hollow, man-made distractions.
The episode also explores the readings from the prophet Jeremiah, Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, and the Gospel of Mark, discussing themes of true shepherds, false idols, and the transformative power of Christ’s love. Deacon Al encourages listeners to reflect on their own lives by asking three critical questions: how they spend their time, money, and their thoughts when alone.
Join in to reconnect with what truly matters and to find inspiration in the apostles' journey and the teachings of Christ. As always, Deacon Al concludes with a blessing, urging everyone to place Christ at the center of their lives.

Drawing from Thomas Sowell's essay "The Real History of Slavery" in the book "Black Rednecks and White Liberals," Bob highlights how slavery was a global phenomenon affecting all races and civilizations. This episode aims to correct historical inaccuracies and provide a broader understanding of slavery's impact on the world and its lingering misconceptions.
Tune in to learn about the extensive efforts made by Western civilization, particularly under the influence of Christianity, to abolish slavery, and how these efforts were unique in the annals of history.
